Learning how to become a more efficient blogger is a skill that can take years to master.
Trust me, as a blogger in the online world who has been doing this for quite some time now( 6 years now) I know that this requires lots of time & patience.
Learning how to make money with a blog is a skill that most people aren’t willing to learn, but if you take the time to learn, this could be the best decision of your life.
Within the following post, I’ll be sharing 7 things that I have done here over the past week that has helped me become a more efficient blogger.
Over the past week, I have been able to nearly double the amount of content that I usually write by doing the 7 things that I’m about to share with you guys today.
Are you guys ready?
Let’s get started, OK?[wp-review]
1) Close Out Any Unnecessary Tabs
Before you start writing a blog post, it’s highly imperative that you eliminate any and all distractions before you start putting together your next piece of content.
This includes any social media windows you may have open, email tabs, or anything that doesn’t pertain to the content that you’re currently working on.
There is nothing worse than being in the middle of writing a post one minute & checking your FB the next minute.
This may sound a little crazy to you guys, but I have caught myself doing this on several occasions.
Obviously, I wasn’t focused on the task at hand and clearly wasn’t into it enough to continue working on it without being distracted.
Once, I closed out all of these unnecessary tabs and focused on the post I was writing I saw a huge difference in my productivity levels.
I was also able to write faster and get more accomplished in less time.
2) Turn Off Your Cellphone
There is nothing worse than being right in the middle of writing an amazing piece of content and having your cell phone ring.
This has happened to me many times and it’s one of the worse distractions ever in my own honest opinion.
This can kill any creativity that you had going on inside your head before the phone rang and disrupted your thoughts.
When sitting down to write a blog post I would highly recommend that you either put your phone on silent or turn it off altogether.
I used to always have my friends hit me up right about the time I would sit down to write a post.
Once I put my phone on silent and placed it in the next room, I was actually quite shocked at how much more productive I have been since doing so.
This was to the point where I have actually been able to finish an entire post within the same day.
3) Do Your Research The Night Before
Another thing that has really helped me be a more efficient blogger is by doing my research the night before.
This way when I get up in the morning, I can write all of this information out without having to waste countless hours researching it in the AM.
I have just started doing this last week and I have already experienced a drastic increase in my productivity levels in this short amount of time.
After I publish the content that I had been working on for that particular day, I check my blog posting schedule to see what’s next on the agenda.
I then get started researching this info and getting everything ready for the next day.
It usually takes me anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes to do my research on any particular program or topic I had picked out for the day.
By changing up your routine & implementing this into your blogging strategy, you’re bound to be a much more efficient blogger.
4) Write Out The Headers & Outline Of Your Post First
This is something else that I just tried out & experienced for myself just last week.
I think I had done this a few times before, but have no idea why I quit doing it as this is one of the things that has helped me out the most.
For me anyway, when I do this, it makes me want to work on filling these headers out with content and searching for relevant images.
This also motivates me to work harder to complete this post so I can move on to the next one.
One of the things that I have done that helps me be more productive is by looking at this as putting together a jigsaw puzzle.
To be honest, when you think about it like this it does make sense.
- You have website content (words that you write into your WP editor)
- Links (Internal & external)
- Images you’ll need to locate & acquire
- Call to action buttons
You need to somehow make all of these things connect and work together in order for a blog post to work the way it should and start to bring in sales for you.
5) Set A Timer
Now that you have eliminated all distractions, done your research, got the basic layout of your blog post written out, it’s time to write a blog post.
In order for you to be more productive and efficient as possible, why not set a timer for 1 hour?
Since you have already researched everything & have the outline of your blog post in place, it shouldn’t take you that long to write everything out.
Don’t worry about making it perfect as you can always go back and proofread it later to check for errors & simple mistakes.
I was actually pretty amazed at how many words I was able to write in an hour and this alone helped me not only be a more efficient blogger but it also boosted my confidence as well.
In an hour I was able to write nearly 1,000 words and this absolutely blows my mind.
I would highly recommend that you set a timer the next time you write a blog post to see how long it takes you.
Remember practice makes perfect and as I said at the beginning of this post, it could take years for you to be a master at blogging.
By following the tips that I’m sharing with you guys today you can cut this time in nearly half.
What are you waiting for?
I’ll be patiently waiting to hear how many words you guys were able to write in 1 hour.
Let me know all about it in the comments below.
Do we have a deal?
6) Having The Right Plugins
In order for you to be a more efficient blogger, it’s highly imperative that you have the right plugins activated to make your site function properly and operate smoothly.
Plugins extend the functionality of your site and allow you to add various features to your site that weren’t initially included when you first launched it.
These can include but isn’t limited to things like
- Displaying stars in the SERPS
- A table of contents for each post or page you publish
- Adding social media buttons to all your pages
- Creating a contact form
- SEO Optimization
The list goes on & on……………..
The 2 main plugins that I have used to be a more efficient blogger is the TOC plugin & having stars displayed in the SERPS.
For those of you who don’t know what the SERPS are, allow me to explain.
This is basically the page you land on when you search for something in Google.
SERP= Search Engine Result Page.
Having stars next to your listing in the search engines is a huge SEO factor and this can significantly improve your ranking in Google.
In the few months that I have had these 2 plugins installed, I have been able to work much efficiently and get a whole lot more work done than I ever was before.
7 Having Proper Hosting
Without the proper hosting, none of the things I mentioned above will work as your entire business is reliant of proper hosting.
Just a couple of months back I decided to ditch my previous hosting provider & switch to Siteground.
What has my experience been like so far?
Nothing short of amazing!!
I made the switch back in March & I couldn’t be happier.
Also, I think it’s worth mentioning that my ranking in Google has also improved.
Not only that, but I was also able to finally get on the first page of Google for many of my targeted keywords as well.
Having the right hosting is one of the many critical things required if you want to have any long term success online.
Luckily for you, I have already gone through years of trial & error, testing what works, as well as, what doesn’t work.
After being with several other hosting companies I can confidently say that Siteground has got to be one of the best hosting providers out there.
There are a plethora of other hosting companies that you could go with.
However, there are only a select few that I have put my stamp of approval on with Siteground being one of them.
If you’re looking to become more efficient and have your website up 99.99% of the time then I would highly recommend Siteground as a reliable hosting platform.
My Closing Thoughts
Learning how to be a more efficient blogger can take years of trial and error as well as a great deal of practice before you hit a home run & knock it out of the park.
However, if you use these 7 tips as a guide and take action on them, your chances of being a more efficient blogger have just gone up by like 50%.
I have actually had my fair share of ups & downs in this business and have failed multiple times with this whole blogging thing.
Instead of letting this discourage me, I feel like it was necessary in order for me to grow and learn from these mistakes.
This whole blogging thing has been a learning experience for me.
Even though I have been doing this for 6 years now, I still learn something new all the time.
If you’re looking for a place where you can not only learn how to become a more efficient blogger but also learn other aspects of running an online business, then I would suggest Wealthy Affiliate.
This is where I got my start in the online world 6 years ago and the place that has taught me how to build multiple successful businesses in multiple niches.
If you’re sick and tired of failing at blogging and you’re ready to learn the right way to go about this then I think you owe it to yourself to check them out for yourself to see what they can do for you.
Other than that, I hope that you guys were able to find value in this post & that it has helped you become a more efficient blogger.
