Have you ever felt this way when searching for information on this topic?
Trust me, I can definitely relate to how you’re feeling about now as I experienced the same thing years ago when I first got started back in 2012/2013.
Being that I have been earning a full time living doing this for 5+ years now I feel like I’m more than qualified to speak on this topic & show you how to replicate the results that I’ve had.
Over the past several weeks, I have received a great number of emails from my loyal visitors asking me if I would show them how I managed to do this.
I figured, sure, why not?
This way you’ll get some first hand information on many of the struggles & challenges that I faced on a day to day basis and learn how to avoid them and come out on top.
I’ll be breaking all of this information down for you guys and laying this information out for you in 7 steps that you’ll need to follow.
What are a few of the things you guys are passionate about?
What hobbies do you have?
Within the following post, I’ll be revealing the 7 steps that I took that enabled me to take my passion for gaming & electronic devices to the next level by creating a business around it.
I’m sure that many of you may have several questions for me regarding this topic and I’ll be doing my absolute best to answer them for you within the context of this post.
If you have struggled to do this in the past and are looking for some legit info on how to realistically do this yourself then you’ll definitely want to stick around & continue reading for all the details.
Are you guys ready to get started?
1. Identify Your Passion Or Hobby
In order for you to make any of this work, you’re going to have to determine a hobby or interest that you would like to go with & narrow things down from there.
This is the step that most people struggle with and fail to understand the proper way to pick a niche and start a blog on this particular topic.
What are you guys passionate about?
Are you a tech nerd, like me, or are you more into perfecting your golf swing?
Perhaps you’re swinging more towards parenting and education type of niche?
You may be into health & fitness and struggling for years to make any money with it and are ready to turn things around.
Whatever the case may be for you, once you determine your niche and have a good idea of what you would like to talk about, you’ll need to then ask yourself these very important questions.
They are as follows:
- Is this a topic that you could see yourself writing about for 5 years or more without getting bored with it?
- Does this topic excite you & put a smile on your face whenever you think about it?
- Did you choose this topic based on a passion or hobby or how much money you could earn with it?
- Are you at least interested in the topic you have chosen and willing to learn as much about it as you can?
These are ALL very important questions that you need to ask yourself before getting involved with any type of niche within the online world.
Personally, for me, I failed in 2 other niches before I found one that I was successful with and was able to quit my full time job in under a year.
Once you have answered these questions truthfully it’s time to move on to the next step and learn how to create a website around the topic you have just chosen.
Are you guys still following me, or did I already confuse you & leave you behind?
Hopefully, we are still on the same page, but if not please let me know in the comments below!!
2. Building A Website Around This Hobby
Now that you have narrowed this down and choose a niche that you would like to go with it’s time for you to build a website around this topic.
Don’t let the term “building a website” scare you as this isn’t nearly as complicated as it was 10 to 15 years ago.
I can remember as far back as 2002 when the internet was still young, I attempted to build a website but failed due to the fact that I needed to hire a programmer and learn how to code just to get my site live on the web.
Who has time or money to be able to do that?
You feel me?
Nowadays, building a website is as easy as 1,2, 3 as you can have a site published and live on the world wide web for the entire world to see with only a few clicks of your mouse in under 5 minutes.
With places like Wealthy Affiliate, not only can you have a website built & on the internet with a few clicks of a button, they also train you on how to put all of this into action and make it work for you.
Pretty sweet if you ask me, wouldn’t you guys agree?
This includes picking a niche, learning how to build a website around the topic you have just chosen, and driving targeted traffic to it.
Not to mention the fact that they also show you how to write engaging content that connects with your audience and provides them with a solution to their problem.
Within the next section, I’ll be showing you guys how easy it is to build your first (Or next) website in only 4 steps so you’ll definitely want to stick around so you don’t miss out on any of this exciting information.
3. Four Steps To Building A Hobby Based Website
As you can see above, you’ll have 3 options to choose from.
If you’re the type of person who isn’t ready to make any type of personal commitment & all you want to do is kick the tires & test your niche market out, I would suggest you go with the free option on the left.
For those of you who already have some type of direction & have already tested the waters so to speak, then I think your best option would be to either register a new domain or go with a domain that you may already own.
Once you have chosen the type of website you would like to build you’ll need to pick the website address that people can find you at on the world wide web.
You’ll need to put some decent thought into this as you won’t be able to change this once you create it.
The only way to change this would be to delete it and start over again from scratch.
I have had to do this several times when I first started so don’t feel bad if you don’t get things right on the first try.
Now that you have picked out a domain name and given your site a name the next step involves giving your site a title.
This is nothing more than an easy way for you to remember it and you can always change this later on down the road,
Once you have decided upon a look for your site you’ll simply need to click the button to create your website and have it show up on the world wide web.
There are literally 4,000+ themes for you to choose from so you aren’t limited in any way when it comes to deciding how you want your website to look.
Sit back and relax as the web builder performs it’s magic and creates a website you can be proud of in just under 1 minute.
4. How To Create Content Around This Hobby
Now that your site is live and online it’s time to get everything set up and start creating some content based on the niche of your choice.
There are actually many different types of content strategies you can choose to go with as these will vary depending on your niche selection.
The most popular type of content that most people start with is product reviews.
This is due to the fact that people who search for product reviews are ready to make a purchase they just need a little push to get them off the fence.
In most cases, these people already have their credit card out, they just need to make 100% sure that this product is the solution that they have been searching for.
This is where you come in and can help them out by providing them with the information they’re looking for.
You do this by doing a ton of research on the product beforehand and write this information out in the form of a product review.
This is how I make the majority of my income online, but this is only 1 content strategy that I use.
4.a Other Types Of Content Creation
In order to keep your audience engaged and coming back to your site to see what’s new and interesting, you need to mix it up by writing various types of content.
Here are just a few of the many types of content I write for the many websites I run & this includes the following.
- List Posts
- Informative articles
- Personal development/ motivational posts
- How-to articles
- Plus many, many, other types of content.
Not only is it important for you to mix it up to keep your readers happy, but this also helps with SEO and getting ranked in the Google search engines.
This will also give you a break from writing the same type of content day in & day out.
By mixing it up, you’ll get to experience writing all the different & exciting types of content await you within the online world.
5. Drive Targeted Traffic To Your Website
Now that you have some type of idea as to what types of content to write, you need to start driving traffic to your site.
You’ll be doing this by targeting keywords within your posts and writing an article on these keywords.
Basically what is happening here is that Google or any other search engine out there is matching up search queries that people type into Google with the keywords you target within your article.
If these 2 matches up then your website will be displayed in the person’s search results.
If you have a catchy title that grabs their attention and makes them want to click on your website to read more about what you have to say, then this is called getting traffic to your website.
There are a plethora of ways for you to drive traffic to your website from social media to PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising.
I recommend that everyone start out using SEO methods of driving traffic to your site when you’re first getting started online.

6. Turn This Traffic Into Paying Customers
Once you have a great deal of traffic coming to your site on a day to day basis, it’s time to turn these people from a mere visitor on your site to a paying customer.
How the heck are you going to do that, Scott?
This all has to do with how you write your content and the tone you use when speaking to your audience.
When writing any type of content online it’s highly imperative that you are writing in conversation mode.
Write your content as if you were talking face to face with them in the same room.
Get personal and relate to them with life experiences that you have gone through.
Share your story & get as personal as you feel comfortable doing.
This is the key to making sales online and converting your website visitors into paying customers.
Once you build a relationship with your readers and connect with them on a personal level, they will want to buy from you instead of the many other people out there who are promoting the same products/ services as you.
Keep in mind that people are looking for a solution to the problem they are having and are looking up to you to provide them with the information they’re looking for.
That’s it if you can do this then the sales are soon to follow!!
7. Earn Affiliate Commissions
Now that you have written a good amount of content and have some traffic coming to your site it’s time to start earning affiliate commissions.
Once your content starts to get indexed and ranked in the search engines, it’s only a matter of time before you start making sales.
However, this doesn’t come easy and will require you to learn a new skill comparable to taking a college course online in a traditional classroom setting.
If you stick with this though & are willing to learn something new then it really can pay off in the long run.
Here are a few affiliate commissions that I have made over the past couple of days by utilizing the training at Wealthy Affiliate and learning as much as I can about this business.
Keep in mind that this is only 1 affiliate program and I have earned over $400 within the first week in October.
If this is any indication of what type of month I’ll be having then I can’t wait to see how the rest of this month unfolds.
If you’re willing to work for it the sky really is the limit as to the income potential that’s available from building a hobby-based business online.
Also, I have been doing this for over 5 years now and have massive knowledge in affiliate marketing and building hobby-based websites that earn me money hand over fist.
The commissions you see listed above are from websites I built back in 2014.
These are both a recurring commission that I received from work that I did years ago.
I’m still continuing to get paid today in 2019 which I think is Awesome!!
Pretty sweet if you ask me, wouldn’t you guys agree?
What If Your Writing & Grammar Skills Aren’t The Best?
You wouldn’t believe how many people have asked me that question over the years and I simply share my experience and show them what a horrible writer I was & how atrocious my grammar was.
However, that didn’t stop me or slow me down.
To be quite honest with you guys today, this motivated me even more since the odds weren’t stacked in my favor.
This was quite a challenge for me which is what I liked about it the most.
If something isn’t challenging, where’s the fun in that?
I’m always up for a challenge especially when there is so much potential to earn as much money as you want to from utilizing a hobby or interest of yours.
None of us were born writers as this is a skill you’ll need to learn as you go and start to take massive action on the training & tools as I did so many years ago.
Trust me, If I can manage to do this with all of my flaws, there is absolutely NO reason why you guys can’t do the same thing.
My Closing Thoughts
Learning how to build a hobby-based website that utilizes a passion or interest of yours can be one of the best (If not the best) skills you can learn.
If you’re willing to take the time & put in the hard work in following the 7 steps that I have laid out for you above then this can really be worth your time in the long run.
The reason why close to 90% of people fail at this is due to the fact that they are looking to get rich quick overnight without putting in any decent amount of work.
This is mainly due to a large amount of get rich quick schemes out there that tell you they will make you a millionaire overnight.
This simply isn’t possible as this could take years before you’re able to claim millionaire status.
